Overland Group 2 Trip September 2-5 (Labor Day weekend)
This coming weekend we have a great trip planned for you. Since almost all of the trails planned along the route are rated difficult, this will be a Group 2 trip only.
This will be an overlanding trip which means we will be wheeling and camping in different locations along the route. Each evening we'll be setting up camp, taking it down the next morning and then taking it all with you to the next location. Your trip leaders will be Kirk and Sam.
The trip will start at 8 A.M. FRIDAY morning Sept. 2nd. We'll be meeting at the West Colorado Ave. Safeway parking lot located at 3275 W Colorado Ave. We'll have a brief discussion about the trip and then be leaving shortly after. We'll head to St. Elmo where we'll travel over Tincup Pass and into the Taylor Park area. We plan to camp at the North end of Taylor Park at Dorchester Campground - or somewhere in the area if it's full.
Saturday morning we'll pack up and head over Taylor Pass then down Express Creek Road. From there we'll head South to Pearl Pass and determine our next steps. If we find camping on the North side we may camp there, and if not, we'll travel over Pearl and find camping on the South side of the pass. After that, we'll need to discuss our options to see what the group wants to do for the rest of the trip.
Since no part of this trip is set in stone, you'll all need to be OK with a fluid plan. There are no reservations so camping may be hard to find. Weather may not cooperate, etc. With the exception of Friday night (and possibly that night as well) all other camping will be primitive with no services.
You will need to bring everything you need with you. Food, shelter, water, gas, etc, and be OK with no bathroom facilities. There will be some opportunities to get some supplies and gas if needed along the way, but most of the time we'll be pretty far from towns.
If you have questions about this trip, you can call Kirk at 719-650-6689.
We hope to see you next weekend!
